Spencer was raised in southern California by a family that placed passion above all. He soon found himself pursuing his passion for filmmaking at the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy majoring in Film Producing and Editing. Upon graduating he had produced and edited over 9 short films winning various film festival accolades from the Palm Springs International Short Festival to the National Film Festival for Talented Youth.
He then continued his education at UC Santa Cruz earning a BA in Integrated Critical Practice focusing equally on film theory and production with a Minor in Legal Studies. During his time at UCSC he served as an invited juror for the Santa Cruz Film Festival Student Showcase and was an invited panelist and speaker at the Society of Cinema and Media Studies. Spencer was also hired to create Youtube content for UC Santa Cruz Housing and Marketing department which has acquired over 50,000 views.
Spencer has an MFA from The American Film Institute's Editing discipline in which he has been mentored by such film and television editors as Donn Cambern, Stan Salfas, Farrel Levy, Wendy Greene Bricmont, David Cook, and Martin Nicholson.
His thesis film ALL THESE VOICES won the 2016 Student Academy Award.
Professionally Spencer has interned and worked for such creative agencies and production companies as Digital Kitchen, On the Reel Production, Dakota Pictures, Citizen Jones, Lives of Women, 60 Second Docs and Soulpancake. He has experience in documentary, narrative filmmaking as well as marketing. He has been an assistant editor and editor on such network shows as, NIGHTCAP, HOW TO BUILD EVERYTHING, THE ORVILLE, 9-1-1, 9-1-1 LONE STAR, Savage X Fenty Vol 2, THE PERIPHERAL for Amazon Studios and most recently on FOUNDATION for APPLE+.
He has served as principle editor for both feature and short films as well as worked as a post production producer and coordinator for various forms of content.
